Laparoscopy is an operative procedure in which abdominal and pelvic surgery is accomplished through tiny punctures in the lower abdomen using a television camera and special small instruments. The uterus, and tubes and ovaries, can be examined via the laparoscope and televised to a screen in the operating suite.
There are several procedures that can be performed with laparoscopy surgery including hysterectomy, sterilization, lysis of adhesions, removal of ovary cysts and/or ovaries.
The most common procedure with the laparoscope is for diagnostic purposes. Pelvic diseases such as ovary cysts, pelvic adhesions, endometriosis and tumors can be easily identified through the laparoscope so that appropiate medical or surgical treatment can be given.
At Doctors for Women, we are experienced with the 2 mm laparoscope which is the smallest laparoscope produced. The scope itself is the diameter of a large needle. No incisions are necessary to place the scope into the abdomen. Of course this is performed under general anesthesia;however, this procedure results in much less post operative discomfort and a quicker post operative recovery time. Most patients are back to normal activity the following day.
New in 2010, Dr. Jacque LaBarre and Dr. M. Cecilia Bellmann have become trained in da Vinci Robotic Gyn Surgery to offer patients of Doctors for Women Clinic an innovative high tech alternative surgery for those patients who seek minimally invasive procedures and quick return to normal function. Less pain, less scar, less time spent in the hospital!

Robotic
Surgery is performed by a specially trained physician through a console
with 3-D imagining of the operative field. The operative instruments
are placed through small punctures into the abdomen and are controlled
by the physicians fingertips for ultimate control for performing
surgery with minimal tissue damage or blood loss.
